Unit description
This unit is a continuation of students' development of clinical skills and aims to consolidate knowledge and practical skills in audiological assessment and audiological rehabilitation. Emphasis is placed upon students using problem solving and critical analysis skills to apply the information they have gained throughout the unit in a clinical setting.

Extensions and Late Submission
Extensions on assignments and assessment tasks may be given, depending on individual circumstances. Students must request an extension by contacting one or both of the Unit Convenors and logging a request through https://ask.mq.edu.au Extensions will only be granted if the student request is received before the task due date. Late submission of assignments and/or assessments may result in a student not being awarded a Pass grade for CAUD817. All students must submit each assessment task in order to pass the unit.
Unless students have negotiated an extension based on documented evidence of significant disruption to their studies, a penalty of 5% per day will apply to late submission of assignments.
Additionally, unless otherwise negotiated, assignments will not be accepted at all AFTER the date on which the marked assignments are returned to all students in the unit.

Clinical Log Sheet
Documentation of clinical experience hours. Students are required to keep a copy of all log sheets for their own records.
Submission to iLearn’s assignment drop-box by 5pm on the Wednesday following the clinical placement.
Evaluation of Learning Outcomes (ELO) — Student
Documentation of the clinical learning goals negotiated with Clinical Educators (CE).
At the end of the placement, both the student and CE will evaluate the students’ performance according to these negotiated goals and the clinical competencies.

The students’ critical reflection of their performance and learning experience during the placement.

Students are required to develop a mock viva voce case from their clinical placements or from their clinical knowledge.
Format: A minimum of 6 questions with a total mark of 30.
The viva case needs to be presented with preliminary background information on a client and clinical context.
Mock exam questions should address foundations of audiology, diagnostic evaluations, and rehabilitation/management. Students are advised to consult full core knowledge and competency list below for guidance.
Answers and marking guide must be provided for each question and references must be provided to support answers.
Due date: 9am Monday 28th September 2015
Submission: Via Drop Box on iLearn.
Students will have a tutorial where they can share their mock viva cases with one another. Feebdack on their cases will be provided prior to this. Students are to refrain from sharing cases prior to this tutorial.
The Mock Viva task is aligned with Macquarie University’s postgraduate capabilities A1, A2, A3, and B1.
Students will be presented with a case (either in paper or video format) and required to answer short answer questions. The content of the clinical examination will be based on the core knowledge and competencies document, which is available on iLearn. If performance is unsatisfactory in any aspect of this examination, students may be required to undertake a supplementary exam. In the interim, students will be given an “Incomplete” grade. Further details regarding the examination will be provided at a later date.
Date: To be announced. The clinical examination will be scheduled within the University’s end of year examination period.

The viva voce exam will assess student’s integration of cases and will also focus on technical knowledge which is not assessable during your clinical exam. To ensure that the exam is considered fair as well as rigorous, students will be examined by both internal and external examiners. The content of the viva voce examination will be based on the core knowledge and competencies document, which is available on iLearn. If performance is unsatisfactory in any aspect of this examination, students may be required to undertake a supplementary exam. In the interim, students will be given an “Incomplete” grade. Further details regarding the examination will be provided at a later date.
Format: The viva voce is presented in the format of one adult and one paediatric case. Both cases must be passed in order to pass the viva voce exam. “Hurdle” questions must also be passed.
These cases are designed to cover theoretical concepts through the clinical information provided. This assessment can cover any material taught in the two years of study and provides students with an opportunity to demonstrate their application of theoretical and practical knowledge.
Duration: 50 minutes
Date: To be announced – The clinical and viva voce examinations will occur within the University’s end of year examination period.
The Viva Voce Examination is aligned with Macquarie University’s postgraduate capabilities A1, A2, A3, B1 and B3.
The unit consists of tutorials, clinical placements, assignments and examinations.

Once this process is complete the details will be entered into the NSW Health Clinical Placement database (ClinConnect) and the student for will be covered for all clinical placements in NSW Public Health facilities. The only further documentation required will be photo ID on the first day of a clinical placement.
