Unit Web Page
Course material is available on the learning management system (iLearn). The web page for this unit can be found at https://ilearn.mq.edu.au/login/MQ/.
Teaching and Learning Activities
The classes will run along the following lines:
·Students will be randomly assigned to a group for the duration of the class and each student in each group will submit copies of the individually completed Seminar Paper Review Form. The forms submitted at the commencement of the class will serve as a record of individuals’ preparation and personal contribution to the substance of the discussion.
At the beginning of the seminar, the research paper that you received one week in advance will be presented by a guest researcher. After the presentation, the students will have an opportunity to ask questions of the presenter. The following week, students will form groups and each group will be assigned one or more aspects of the paper to present and discuss based on the sections of the Seminar Paper Review Form. The presentations should take no more than 10 - 15 minutes and will work best if other members of the class make contributions to the discussion.
·While the format of the classes will be reasonably consistent, the convenor will vary the format according to the research area of the paper to be presented.
Resources
To prepare for each tutorial you are required to read a research paper. The research papers will be made available on iLearn the week before the paper is presented.
Additional resources for reading and citation are required, and can be found via the library website http://www.mq.edu.au/about/campus-services-and-facilities/library and on the unit iLearn page.
