Unit description
This unit aims to serve as a transition to the next stage of a student's career, whether that is entry into the workforce or pursuing further study, by providing an opportunity to reflect on and consolidate the knowledge and insight developed through their degree into a significant practical or theoretical project. According to each student's interest, the focus of the project is selected from a wide range of topics in the field of Japanese Studies (language and/or content/area studies). Students will be expected to demonstrate their knowledge via their chosen media of presentation (such as interview, written work, audio/video clips, oral presentation, translating/interpreting tasks). To successfully complete this unit, it is essential that students exercise their own initiative in managing their project.

Supplementary Tests & Late Submissions
If you anticipate unavoidable difficulty in sitting for tests (in class and online), contact the convener as soon as possible. A request for a supplementary test will be considered only in the case of serious illness or disruption. Assignments are compulsory and must be submitted on time. As a general rule, extensions will not be granted without a valid and documented reason (e.g. medical certificate). Late submissions will be penalised by 2% for each day (including weekends) the assignment task is late. No assignments will be accepted after assignments have been marked and feedback has been provided. Assignment tasks handed in early will not be marked and returned before the due date.
Special Consideration
If a student is prevented by serious and unavoidable disruption from completing unit requirements in accordance with their ability, they may apply for support under the Special Consideration Policy. To access this support, students must notify the university via ask.mq.edu.au. Students should refer to the Special Consideration Policy for further information (see the link provided in the 'Policies and procedures' section of this unit guide).

You will be required to have an individual consultation with the unit convenor (in person, by phone or email) by the end of Week 1, and submit a progress report in Week 3. You are also expected to provide support to other students through weekly discussions and participate in the peer review process of the Project Presentation. You will be required to submit a three (3) page project proposal electronically through Turnitin. Instructions, template, marking criteria and assessment examples can be found in iLearn.
Due: Week 5
Weighting: 20%
You will be required to submit a 8-10 minute video presentation on your completed project, via iLearn as required. A self assessment should also be submitted online. Presentations will be peer-reviewed. Instructions, marking criteria and assessment examples can be found in iLearn.

Weighting: 50%
The final product of your project and a detailed report should both be submitted electronically (e.g., typed, scanned, digitised file or website). Instructions, marking criteria and assessment examples can be found in iLearn.
