Unit description
In this unit, students will have the opportunity to investigate a specific research issue in their domain of choice within Accessible Communication. They can focus their research investigation in either Accessibility and Intercultural Communication, Accessibility and Translation & Interpreting, Accessibility and Editing & Publishing, or Accessibility and Disability Studies as an extension of their initial proposal in their Research Methods unit. This unit allows them to be able to survey current studies in their choice of research topic and conduct an empirical research study based on that to help them become more informed Accessible Communication specialists.

Name | Weighting | Hurdle | Due |
---|---|---|---|
Research proposal | 20% | No | Week 5 |
Research Proposal Presentation | 20% | No | Week 6 |

The research proposal requires the students to identify the research plan for the research project for the semester. This needs to clearly indicate the research question, methodology for both data collection and analysis, and the significance of this research.
Due: Week 6
Weighting: 20%
The oral presentation allows the students to present their plan for research for the semester and provides them a platform to gain feedback on the details of their research.
Due: Week 13
Weighting: 60%
This 5,000 word research report allows the students to present the details of their research project outlining in details their research questions, data collection and analysis methodologies, findings, discussion relevant to existing literature and the significance of their research findings.
The unit is delivered via one-to-one consultation with the unit convenor and/or the assigned supervisor for the research project at a time determined and agreed upon by all parties involved before the commencement of the semester.
As this is an individual research project, meeting schedules will be determined and agreed upon by all parties involved with the convenor ensuring that sufficient guidance and support are given to the students leading up to each of the three assessments in the unit.
