Unit description Unit description

This unit will equip you with understanding of the key processes, terminology and concepts relevant to the project-based management approach. It will also explore current challenges as project management becomes a core competency of successful organisations. There will be a focus on the integrative process and knowledge of project management as described in the Global Project Management Framework adopted by the Project Management Institute (PMI), Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM), and the International Project Management Association (IPMA).

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to:

  • ULO1: Apply project based management approaches in order to make and implement well-informed decisions.
  • ULO2: Assess and integrate the impact of diverse cultural and market mindsets into project based management approaches to business decisions.
  • ULO3: Apply project based management approaches to business performance and productivity that will help measure and track value creation across the organisation.

Technology Used and Required

Students are required to have access to a personal computer and familiarise themselves with iLearn (https://ilearn.mq.edu.au/login/).

iLearn will be used to post lecture slides, assessment details, student grades and as a means of communication between staff members and students.

Students are expected to check their university email account and contact the teaching staff through it. Gmail, hotmail and other personal email accounts are often blocked through the university's spam filter; communicating through those risks that your query will not be answered. All assessments should be submitted in MS Word or PDF format.

Delivery Format and Other Details

  • Number and length of classes: There will be 13 weeks of lectures and combined workshop. Each class is 3 hours long, including lecture and seminar activities. Classes may vary due to public holiday(s).
