Unit description Unit description

This clinical placement unit continues to build knowledge, skills, and competencies from SPTH8832, enabling students to apply them during speech pathology clinical practice. Students will attend placements and engage in clinical service delivery. Students will also engage in case discussions with clients, families and relevant professionals, and further develop advanced communication skills. Placements will provide learning experiences with a range of child and adult communication and swallowing disorders. Students will engage in the preparation, planning, and reflection activities required for clinical placements. Students will attend on campus classes that support their experiential learning. Placement: 13 full days, i.e., 1 day per week for 13 weeks.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to:

  • ULO1: Demonstrate above Intermediate Level Behaviours on COMPASS across: (i) all Professional Competencies (i.e., Reasoning, Communication, Learning, Professionalism); and (ii) CBOS (2011) competences 1 - 7 (i.e., Assessment; Analysis and interpretation; Planning evidence-based speech pathology practices; Implementation of speech pathology practice; Planning, providing, and managing speech pathology services; Professional and supervisory practice; Lifelong learning and reflective practice).

  • SPTH8833 is ungraded. Students will receive an "S" grade upon satisfactory completion.
